What is reflexology?
First practiced thousands of years ago by the Egyptians, Chinese and Indians, reflexology is a natural touch therapy, practiced on the feet and hands. It is based on the idea that every part of the body is mirrored in the feet. By applying pressure to specific reflexes on the feet areas of imbalance will be identified to corresponding body areas and energy flow restored.

How will reflexology make me feel?
During Reflexology you can expect to feel relaxed, comfortable and supported physically and emotionally. You will be seated on a couch or in a chair and asked to remove your shoes and socks. Once your feet have been cleansed, the treatment starts with a gentle relaxation sequence. Occasionally you may feel some tenderness where the therapist is applying pressure to your feet, however, this is temporary. The Reflexology will be gentle and soothing. On your first visit a medical case history will be taken and there will be a preliminary talk to make your treatment plan. Treatment will last for up to an hour. You may feel tired afterwards. Your therapist will advise you to drink plenty of water. We advise you to stay in the Salon until you feel ready to travel home.

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. Reflexology is not massage, but a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas."
Although this definition is accurate, I feel that it does not do reflexology justice. After practicing reflexology for some time, I discovered that its effects are not limited to "organs, glands and parts of the body." Reflexology also has the power to effect our emotions, even those emotions that we repress and refuse to acknowledge. Sometimes a reflexology session can leave a person in tears - without them even knowing why.
I believe that crying during a reflexology session is evidence that stored negative emotions are being drawn out and released. This is a very positive thing! I believe that stored negative emotions will eventually manifest in physical ailments, and eventually diseases (if they are stored in our bodies long enough). Let us not forget that our thoughts and emotions are energy, and this energy is very powerful.
It is true that not everyone will experience a reflexology session in the manner just described. In fact, some people feel nothing more than a nice "foot rub". This is also okay. I know that the reflexology has been performed and the 'reflex' has taken place, in whatever form it was needed. It is important for people to know that a reflexology session cannot be controlled. A session is unique to every person, every time.
